The One Feeling You Can’t Escape While Chasing Your Dreams
Time to get real about what it feels like when you go for your goals
Have you ever heard anyone who achieved their dreams say they felt great doing it?
Most of us don’t get to chase our dreams under ideal conditions. We have full-time jobs we don’t want to do if we are still chasing the chance to do our dream work. Family obligations are top priorities. Social events come up when you were planning on getting to your “side hustle.” Technology distractions are non-stop and you need to be disciplined to eliminate them. You have to work hard to find and protect your time to move forward.
Most jobs don’t give opportunities to work on them during the day. Sometimes you can find short segments of time, but you can’t count on that to accomplish your work. Kids need your time before and after work for getting to school, activities, and you still must do all the things to be a good parent. You need quality time with your partner, dinner on the table, chores that must get done, and gym time to fit in. Life forces us to work on our personal goals when we aren’t at our best.
Hustle culture doesn’t advertise how tired you will feel chasing your dreams. You never see YouTube videos about someone feeling tired or when they don’t want to do the work. Influencers tell you how great you are to get their views, but that dopamine rush only lasts so long when it’s 11:00 pm on Monday and the house is quiet for you to work. It’s up to you if you decide to sacrifice some sleep to push yourself forward when all you want is to rest or zone out on your phone which accomplishes nothing.
This means you must stop caring how tired you feel when it’s time to work on your goals. Your goals don’t care if you want to sleep. If you want to be successful and fire your day job to work for yourself, you will have to work on them when least convenient for you. It’s going to be late nights and early mornings. If you have a newborn as I do, I may not go back to bed and I’ll work on my writing or online class I’m taking.
Everyone knows it takes hard work to succeed. You have as good of a chance of winning the lottery as the algorithm launching you to fame and fortune after a few posts. It’s going to be a personal battle between you and how tired you feel. Caffeine can only fuel you so much that it comes down to discipline. The more you push through when you are tired, the more accomplished you will feel and be one step closer to achieving your goals.
